In the Hearts of Wild Men (Book / Audio Tapes) In 1981, missionary David Sitton and photo-journalist Ernest Herndon set out for one of the most inaccessible regions – Menyamya – in the remarkable and wild land of Papua New Guinea. The notorious Kukakuka tribesmen of these regions are extremely warlike and, according to some sources, still engage in cannibalism. This is a “no-nonsense” book about the realities of missions to such lands. Although Sitton and Herndon expected hardship, they could not have anticipated the strange twists of betrayal, severe illness, and finally being stranded in one of the most remote regions of the earth. This is a story of their hope, their despair, of human frailty and yet God’s wise purposes being realized even when we cannot conceive of what He is doing. Here is the story of apparent failure and the complete unraveling of a quest to bring the gospel to an unreached tribe – but ending with the later discovery that all was being overseen for good by the gracious hand of God. “Should be required reading for everyone considering a call to foreign missions.”

To Every Tribe With Jesus
(Book) "This is a truly remarkable book. If it can get into the hands of missionaries before they go into almost any part of the world it can cut the expectable confusion in half...
This book takes very
seriously the complexities of tribal evangelism but it also
serves to bring welcome optimism into focus for truly
reaching through to understand the challenging mysteries of
animistic thinking...
|
There are very few books
that can top the list of essential reading for anyone
serious about finishing the job of the Great Commission.
This is one of them." ~~
From the Foreword by Dr. Ralph Winter, Founder, U.S. Center
For World Mission "For those who have a missionary concern for tribal peoples, this is a must read book. Missionaries to tribals live and work with animism, or its close cousin, folk religion on a 24/7 basis. "To Every Tribe With Jesus" has both informed my understanding and reaffirmed my strong belief that we must build our strategies for tribal evangelism on Scripture, allowing history and the sciences to shed light on what God has revealed rather than pursuing the opposite course." ~~ Dr. David J. Hesselgrave, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School "David Sitton has done the prospective missionary a great service with his perceptive writings. He gives practical insight into the belief system, worldview and spiritual warfare among the tribes. This book would have been a tremendous help to us before we entered the Tonga tribe." ~~ Phil Elkins, Director, Los Angeles Missionary Internship and former missionary to Zambia To Every Tribe With Jesus! (Book) Morning Morning True is a fictionalized account of the exciting story told in the book, In The Hearts of Wild Men. Morning Morning True is a vivid description of what the author feared might happen as he lived through the events with missionary David Sitton. |
Author Ernest Herndon has fun in this book as he
changes the names of characters and takes creative
license with the plot. The first two thirds of the
book follow a similar story line to the true story
account. Herndon then proceeds to chronicle the
worst case scenario that could have been. What happens in the stifling recesses of the jungles of Papua New Guinea makes for truly exciting reading. It’s a story of treacherous villains such as Yalu, and of horrifying dangers such as cannibalism, starvation, and raging jungle fevers. It’s also a tale of Christians struggling with their faith and of non-Christians learning to believe. A tale made even more thrilling by powerful, believable characters and the lush jungle setting. Best of all, this story is good Christian literature. It is the kind of literature that goes beyond simple story telling to set forth a new perspective on death, terror, survival against the odds – and on faith itself. Morning Morning True is a novel of fast paced drama, gripping suspense, and Christian values put to the test.
